UPDATE: Brewster Village Trustee Has No Plans To Resign

The village board has a resolution on the Wednesday agenda about asking for her resignation.

BREWSTER, NY — Brewster village board members will vote Wednesday on a resolution asking Trustee Erin Meagher to resign. Meagher, the former director of the Mahopac Chamber of Commerce, admitted last mouth that she had used the Chamber's credit card for personal purposes. However, Meagher's plans to remain on the board have not changed, she said.

"I have no plans to resign as stated in writing to the village board at the previous meeting," Meagher said Wednesday.

Meagher, 26, of 12 Main Street in Brewster, was arrested March 21, on a charge of grand larceny in the fourth degree, a class E felony. She was also fired.

She pleaded guilty to a reduced petty larceny charge, which is a misdemeanor. As part of the plea deal, she admitted guilt, telling the court she used the Chamber's debit card for personal purposes between March and December 2016. She must pay back $2,809.98 and do 100 hours of community service. She cannot apply for unemployment benefits.

She has been on the village board since 2013.

In March, the village board issued a statement about Meagher's arrest, reassuring residents "that as an individual Trustee, Ms. Meagher was never in control of any Village finances, and had no expense account of any kind through the Village. Any and all financial decisions of the Village, including expenditures, must be approved by the Board of Trustees. Further, there are audits and controls in place to ensure that the Village Budget is adhered to in all respects."

The statement also said, "The Board of Trustees will continue to monitor the situation, and will keep the public informed as to how this may impact her position as Trustee."
