Musicals at Richter

Musicals at Richter (MAR) continues its 25th season of Fairy Tale Theater, a play series by and for young people, on Saturday, July 25 and August 1&nbsp; Performances take place on the grounds of Richter Arts Center, 100 Aunt Hack Road, in Danbury.&nbsp;

The shows feature fun and captivating stories including "The Three Little Pigs" and "The Reluctant Dragon" (July 25); and "Rapunzel &amp; Baby Yaga" (August 1).

Robert Mayette of Ridgefield adapts and directs these classic tales, performed by an ensemble of 13 young area actors. The hour-long, interactive performances include plenty of audience participation, a show-related craft activity, and gifts from Frederic the Dragon.

Grounds open at 10:30 a.m. for the craft activity, with the show at 11 a.m. Bring blankets or chairs for seating on the lawn, along with sunscreen; the performance will move indoors in the case of inclement weather.

Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased at the door. A small snack and drink concession is available.&nbsp;

The Studio Around The Corner

The Studio Around the Corner is blessed with two grand pianos. On Sunday, July 26th at 3 p.m., audiences will have the opportunity to hear those two pianos played simultaneously for the first time at a “Concert Around the Corner” entitled “Two Grands - Four Hands.”&nbsp; Celebrated musicians Sharon Chang and Michael Mulder will provide a joyous afternoon as they perform music by Mozart, Ravel and Arensky – using all 176 keys.&nbsp;
Sharon Chang is an accomplished, internationally-recognized concert pianist who performs extensively as both a soloist and chamber musician across the United States and China. She has built a reputation for her dynamic repertoire spanning classical works and world premieres. 
Dr. Michael Mulder is a classically-trained pianist, organist and educator in New York. He is currently the band teacher in the Bedford Central School District and Choir Director/Organist at St. James Church in North Salem.

The series is one of many programs of the Town of Southeast Cultural Arts Coalition, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating and sustaining cultural arts in Brewster. Since 2010, the Coalition has led the restoration of the historic Southeast Old Town Hall while presenting hundreds of cultural events through the Studio Around the Corner, the Old Town Hall Theater, and other local venues. Connecticut Ballet's BALLET UNDER THE STARS returns for the third consecutive year with a dynamite program of classical and contemporary ballets performed by the company's sensational soloists. The Brewster Carmel Garden Club Standard Flower Show entitled "America the Beautiful--250 Years" will be held Friday, Aug. 21 from 2 - 4:00 pm and&nbsp; Saturday, August 22 from 10 am - 4 pm.
The show will be located at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2103 Route 6, Brewster, NY.&nbsp; Enter on Old Route 6, turn on Husted Road where you'll see the church parking lot and entrance to the building.
In addition to displays of garden flowers, herbs, vegetables, potted plants, and terrariums, there will be educational displays, botanical arts creations and numerous floral arrangements vying for ribbons in this fun, competitive event.
A highlight of this free event is the club's incredible Chinese Auction where participants place their purchased raffle tickets in the bags in front of the item(s) they're interested in winning.
So, mark your calendars and plan to join the members of your local community gardeners at this totally free event. Whether you are an avid gardener or just want to see some breathtaking blooms and catch up with friends, there’s something for everyone. Come for the flowers, stay for the community!
