Two-time Grammy-nominated trumpeter Alphonso Horne’s Gotham Kings are a dynamic, New Orleans-inspired jazz ensemble that regularly performs as the Mardi Gras house band at Jazz at Lincoln Center. The Brewster Summer Music Series is thrilled to host them at the gazebo for the very first time on Wednesday, July 22nd at 6:30 p.m for a showstopping free concert. Concertgoers are urged to wear their beads and masks. The Cultural Arts Coalition will also be handing them out to the crowd.
The Gotham Kings have earned a reputation for delivering electrifying performances celebrating the rich traditions of early American jazz. Drawing inspiration from King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band and the pioneering artistry of Louis Armstrong, the ensemble brings the spirit of New Orleans to audiences through an energetic blend of rags, stomps, blues, and funk. Their performances capture the joy, spontaneity, and excitement that made New Orleans jazz America's original popular music.
The concert will take place at the gazebo in Southeast Veterans Park, located at the corner of Railroad and Morningthorpe Avenues in Brewster. In the event of inclement weather the performance will be moved indoors, thanks to the generosity of Tom and Jerry's Irish House.
Concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy a summer evening of outstanding live music with family and friends. Admission is free. The famous 50/50 raffle will take place as usual, and the community is encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations for Brewster Cares. Other Community Partners represented include Putnam Prevention Council and Child Care Council of Dutchess and Putnam.
