Carmel Senior Citizens Complex Destroyed by Fire

CARMEL, NY ― A massive fire at Hughson Commons early Monday morning took the combined efforts of every fire department in eastern Putnam County and some from farther away, the Putnam County Courier reports.

The senior housing complex was engulfed, residents were taken to a staging area and the Red Cross was called in to help with emergency supplies and housing, Eric Gross reported.

One firefighter was treated at Putnam County Hospital for smoke inhalation, the Courier said.
