Concert Around the Corner: Instrumental Alchemy
The Town of Southeast Cultural Arts Coalition presents DT "Double Trouble" Duo Saturday, March 28, 7:30pm

The Town of Southeast Cultural Arts Coalition presents, “Instrumental Alchemy - A Night of Musical Transformation from Past to Present, and Present to Past”, Saturday, March 28, 7:30pm at the Studio Around the Corner.
The DT “Double Trouble” Duo-Tama Kott and Arnold Irchai, bassoons- will present music written in the 20th and 21st centuries that hearkens back to yesteryear; the expression of the present reflected in classic forms of the past. The program will include music by the modern Russian-born composer Vladimir Levit; the well-known Paris Conservatory composer Eugene Bozza; and the under-appreciated and talented French composer, Édouard Flament. Double Trouble will present two world premieres by the local NY-based composer, Chris Milmerstadt. The first of Milmerstadt’s works is a multimedia presentation in four movements titled, “Planets of Alchemy”, for bassoon duo. The second piece, “Petition and Rain Dance”, will also feature the composer on percussion.
Bassoonists Tama Kott and Arnold Irchai are Moosmann Performing Artists, representing Bernd Moosmann, Germany, and Miller Marketing, USA. Dr. Kott grew up in New York and maintains close ties to the area. She served as Principal Bassoon in orchestras in Mexico and Germany. The Russian-born Dr. Irchai has been living in the United States since 1990. He served as Principal Bassoon of the Moscow Philharmonic, Russia and the National Philharmonic, DC. Kott and Irchai are also accomplished educators and conductors. Double Trouble has performed very recently in New York City at the 2014 International Double Reed Conference as well as the well-known Summit Music Festival in Purchase, NY. They have also been invited to perform at the Lyceum in Alexandria, VA, the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center in MD, College Music Society, and the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructor conferences among others. Double Trouble completed a residency at Northern Arizona University in 2013, premiering five works, and regularly participates in and facilitates master-classes and performances at colleges, universities, with orchestras, and in the public schools. Their first compact disc, “Duettino: International Works for Two Bassoons“ was released on the Soundview Label.
