Cops: Driver on Route 9 Clocked at 105 MPH

It was a 45 mile-an-hour zone, the Putnam Sheriff's Office points out.

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Dutchess County man on a charge of reckless driving.

Deputy Sheriff Brian Aisenstat observed a speeding motorist commit several traffic violations on Route 9 in Philipstown after 9 p.m. Jan. 3. At one point, police allege, the deputy paced the motorist at 105 miles per hour in a 45 miles per hour zone.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Christopher C. Council, 32, of 5 Yew Court, Fishkill, New York. The deputy charged him with Reckless Driving, a misdemeanor. He was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and released after posting $85.00 cash bail pending a Feb. 3 appearance in the Town of Philipstown Justice Court.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, Council could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00 for each charge.
