Cops Say Putnam Man Had 4 Lbs Of Marijuana

He's charged with intent to sell.

BREWSTER, NY — A 24-year-old Putnam man is accused of intending to sell drugs in Patterson. New York State Police from the Brewster barracks arrested Austin M. Hayes of Patterson Feb. 18 after interviewing him for something completely different.

Troopers received a complaint about a vehicle blocking a driveway on Haviland Drive in Patterson.

When they interviewed the vehicle owner, they said, they could see drugs and drug paraphernalia in plain sight in the car.

They allege their subsequent investigation found Hayes in possession of over four pounds of marijuana, approximately 2.5 grams of concentrated cannabis, and $1,183 in U.S. currency.

He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th degree with intent to sell, and Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the 2nd degree, both class D felonies, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree, and two counts of Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, all class A misdemeanors.

Hayes was arraigned before the town of Patterson Court and sent to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 bond.
