UPDATE: Route 22 Reopens After Fatal Crash Investigation

The state highway is closed at Milltown Road.

UPDATE: Route 22 has been reopened to traffic, state transportation officials said at 4:50 p.m.


BREWSTER, NY — A two-car collision on Route 22 in Southeast Tuesday has claimed the life of one driver and injured the driver and a passenger in the other car, Putnam County Sheriff Donald Smith reports.

The crash occurred at about 1:15 p.m. today, when a northbound vehicle and a southbound vehicle on Route 22 collided head-on just north of the Milltown Road intersection.

The male driver of the northbound vehicle was killed in the crash. The female driver and the male passenger of the southbound car were transported by ambulances to Danbury Hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

The identities of the crash victims were not immediately available. At 2:30 p.m. the crash was still being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the New York State Police, and Route 22 would remain closed to traffic during the investigation, police said.
