Crash on Route 22 Kills Carmel Woman

State police seek help from anyone with knowledge of the crash or the moments leading to it.

A 2-car crash April 29 took the life of a Carmel resident, and New York State police continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident.

Police from the Brewster barracks were called to an auto collision on Route 22, just north of State Route 311 at 3:55 p.m.

Police said a 2003 GMC pick-up truck, operated by Christopher C. Osborne, Jr., age 42, of Pawling was traveling northbound on State Route 22. A 2015 Subaru Forester, operated by Mario L. Riccobon, age 65, of Carmel, New York, was traveling southbound on State Route 22.

Investigation revealed that Osborne crossed over the double yellow lines into the southbound lane and struck the Subaru head-on.

A passenger in the Subaru Forester, 63-year-old Jean Riccobon, of Carmel, was pronounced dead at the scene by Transcare. Mr. Riccobon was transported to Danbury Hospital with injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening.

Troopers were assisted by the Patterson Fire Department, Transcare EMS, and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision remains under investigation.
