Man Taken Into Custody After Lake Carmel Standoff: Update
Police had asked people who were home around Vernon Drive to stay inside and lock up.

UPDATE: A man who had locked himself in his home in Lake Carmel was extracted safely Friday night. Kent police said he had been suffering from depression.
UPDATE: Heavy police presence in Lake Carmel is due to a person who barricaded themselves inside their home. Kent police said there is no danger to the community, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office confirmed by retweeting Nadia Galindo.

CARMEL, NY â The Putnam County Sheriff's Office is asking residents around Vernon Drive in Lake Carmel to stay inside and lock their houses.
Police are also waving school buses away. If you're there, secure your house and stay inside. If you're not, stay away, police said.

The Carmel schools Superintendent tweeted about what they're doing with kids who can't get home:
Due to police activity CCSD buses cannot access Vernon Drive in Lake Carmel. CHS and GFMS students from Vernon have been brought to GFMS & can be picked up or will be brought home when the road is cleared. KPS students from Vernon can be picked up at KPS. More info when avail
