New Storm Warning for Putnam

It's in effect until 1:15 p.m. Thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening.

UPDATE 3:20 p.m. The NWS issued a Special Weather Statement: At 257 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located over Haverstraw, moving northeast at 40 mph. Wind gusts up to 50 mph and nickel size hail are possible with this storm.

Mount Kisco and Yorktown Heights around 310 PM EDT.
Mahopac around 320 PM EDT.
Carmel around 325 PM EDT.
Lake Carmel and Brewster around 330 PM EDT.
Bethel and New Fairfield around 340 PM EDT.
Danbury and Newtown around 345 PM EDT.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.

The National Weather Service in Upton NY has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Northern Westchester County, Southeastern Orange County in southeastern New York, Western Putnam County and Rockland County. It's in effect until 1:15 p.m.

At 12:11 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Monsey, moving northeast at 20 mph. It could reach Peekskill and West Point around 1250 PM EDT, Yorktown Heights around 100 PM EDT. Cold Spring around 105 PM EDT.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
