Danbury Man Faces Felony DWI Charge in Southeast

The Putnam Sheriff's Deputy found the erratic motorist had a previous DWI conviction.

SOUTHEAST, NY — Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Connecticut man on a DWI charge.

At 2:45 a.m. Sunday, Deputy Sheriff Keith Blessing stopped a motorist who he had observed to be driving erratically on Route 6 in the Town of Southeast. The deputy concluded that the driver, identified as Luis G. Sanchez, 28, of 17 Clark Street in Danbury was intoxicated.

The deputy also found that Sanchez had been previously convicted for driving while intoxicated within the least 10 years.

The deputy arrested Sanchez and charged him with Driving While Intoxicated, a felony, after the man failed a series of standardized field sobriety tests. He was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment.

If found guilty of the felony charge, Sanchez could face up to four years in a New York State Correctional Facility and a fine of up to $5,000.
