Jeep Sinks While Crossing On Ice Over Lake Mahopac, Driver In Critical Condition

In a separate incident, a 12-year-old child is in stable condition after being struck by a car, according to Carmel police.

CARMEL, NY โ€” It was a dangerous evening commute in Putnam County, according to Carmel police.

On Monday evening, at 5:32 p.m., on South Lake Boulevard in Chamber Park, a 12-year-old was struck by a car. The child received a serious head injury, but was conscious while being rushed to the hospital. He is currently in stable condition, according the Carmel Police Department.

Several roads in the area were closed as rescuers worked to save the child's life.

Meanwhile, in what Carmel police are describing as a "separate and unrelated incident," at approximately 5:45 p.m., 911 began getting multiple calls about a white Jeep driving across Lake Mahopac.

The vehicle broke through the ice and became fully submerged in the icy waters. The Mahopac Falls Fire Department Dive Team along with police, fire and EMS extricated a female driver who was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

East Lake Boulevard, from McMahon Place to North Lake Boulevard, was closed for most of the night.

Carmel Police say that both of the troubling incidents are still under investigation.
