Driveway Paving Scam Pops Up In Putnam County
It's spring, and the asphalt plants are operating again. So, apparently, are unscrupulous entrepreneurs.
GARRISON, NY — Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley Jr. is warning Putnam residents of a possible driveway paving scam. The Sheriff’s Office received a complaint April 4 from a resident in Garrison.
The homeowner said that two men approached him at his residence April 2 and identified themselves as a paving company. The men told the homeowner that they had extra asphalt that was “left over” from another job and offered to pave his driveway for $1500.
Before the work was complete, the men demanded $5500.

Last summer several similar incidents were reported in the Rochester area resulting in the arrests of several persons on charges of “Scheme to Defraud,” police said.
Sheriff Langley reminds all citizens, especially seniors, to be cautious and always get the price of services in writing before any service begins. Additionally, always make sure the company is licensed and reputable.
