Drug Charges for Carmel Man

The Putnam County Sheriff reports he was stopped for traffic violations on Bryant Pond Road.

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Carmel man on drug possession charges.

At 10:29 p.m. Aug. 6, Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Irwin stopped a motorist who had committed traffic violations on Bryant Pond Road in Putnam Valley. Upon approach, the deputy said he detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle. Upon investigation, the deputy concluded that the driver, identified as Thomas C. Reilly, 21, of 2103 Kings Way, Carmel was in possession of quantities of marijuana and heroin.

The deputy charged him with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation; and with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a misdemeanor. Reilly was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and released pending a future appearance in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court to answer the charge.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, he could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
