DWI Charge After Crash on Route 311
Police were called to a car that had run off the road.

A Carmel man faces a charge of DWI after an incident on Route 311.
At 7:44 a.m. Oct. 29, Deputy Sheriff Alexander Ruhe responded to a report of a property damage auto accident on Route 311 in Patterson. Upon arrival, the deputy determined that Joseph W. Braun, IV, of 29 Fowler Avenue, Carmel had lost control of his vehicle and driven off the roadway.
The deputy concluded that Braun was intoxicated.

The deputy charged him with Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after the man failed a series of standardized field sobriety tests. Braun was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility, where his charge was upgraded to Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor.
He will be required to appear in the Town of Patterson Justice Court to answer the charge. If found guilty, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000, police said.
