DWI on Route 6

A sheriff's deputy observed a car being driven erratically.

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Mahopac man on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

Around 9 p.m. March 18, Deputy Sheriff Eric Hayes was patrolling in his cruiser along U.S. Route 6 near Baldwin Lane in Mahopac, when he spotted a car being operated in an erratic manner on Route 6. The deputy pulled over the driver, who was identified as Brian P. Gallagher, 59, of 18 Baldwin Lane.

The deputy reported that Gallagher was allegedly determined to be in an intoxicated condition. Consequently, the deputy arrested him for DWI, a misdemeanor, and cited him for traffic infractions relating to his alleged erratic operation of the vehicle.

The defendant was processed at the Sheriff’s Office and was later released on an appearance ticket returnable in the Town of Carmel Justice Court on March 27. If found guilty of the DWI charge, he could face up to a year in jail, a fine of up to $1,000 and sanctions against his driving privileges.
