Edward D. Richardson, Retired Cold Spring Postmaster

Mr. Richardson was 77.

Richardson, Edward D., age 77, a resident of Putnam Lake since 1973, died Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Putnam Hospital Center, Carmel, NY.

Mr. Richardson was born in Yonkers, NY on April 4, 1938 to Edward D. and Margaret (Davey) Richardson. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers. Edward proudly served his country during the early years of the Vietnam War in both France and Germany from 1961 to 1963.

On April 1, 1967, Edward married June Swidorski at St. Peter’s Church in Yonkers.

Mr. Richardson was a postmaster for the United States Postal Service located in Cold Spring, NY for 36 years, retiring in 2001. He was also a security officer for the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers in Ossining, NY, retiring in 2015. Mr. Richardson was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, as well as, a member of the Putnam Lake VFW Post # 9257. He was a very social fellow who enjoyed being with people, just hanging around. He was an avid Red Sox and St. Bonaventure fan, and enjoyed tinkering around the house. The love of and for his family…this was truly the most important part of his life.

Mr. Richardson is survived by his ten children, John C. Richardson of Putnam Lake, Dennis Richardson and his wife Paula of Putnam Lake, Jennifer Richardson of Putnam Lake, Danielle Shampnoi and her husband Jeff of Danbury, CT, Megan St. Germaine and her husband Chris of Bedford Hills, NY, Patricia Richardson and Niki of Albany, NY, Sean Richardson and his wife Lindsay of Danbury, CT, James Richardson of Brewster, NY, Caitlin Richardson and Colin Richardson, both of Putnam Lake, NY; 3 sisters, Peggy Cornely of Bowie, MD, Mary Jane Rees of Bluffton, SC and Helen Walker of Colorado; 7 seven grandchildren, Gabrielle, Renee, Fallon, Tristan, Vivienne, Jack and Joanne. He was pre- deceased by a sister and brother, Virginia Flagg and the Rev. James Richardson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 10AM at Sacred Heart Church, Putnam Lake, NY. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery in Brewster, New York. Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
