UPDATE: Fatal Construction Zone Crash On I-684

New York State Police are investigating.

UPDATE: The truck was part of the ongoing overnight construction work on 684, police said. The collision took place just after midnight.


SOUTHEAST, NY — A Danbury man died on I-684 Thursday when his car rear-ended a dump truck. New York State Police are investigating the fatal collision, which involved three vehicles in the northbound lanes.

Jon A. Slater, 54, was pronounced deceased on scene, and transported to the Putnam Hospital Center.

Initial investigation of the collision revealed that a commercial dump truck entered the roadway from the median, north of exit 9W in Southeast, police said.

Slater’s vehicle rear-ended the dump truck then traveled into the middle lane and struck a third vehicle, police said.

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Collision Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate the cause of this collision.
