First Presbyterian Church Welcomes Interim Pastor To Mahopac

Rev. Cheryl Montgomery has been appointed to serve as Interim Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Mahopac.

(MAHOPAC, NY) Rev. Cheryl Montgomery has been appointed to serve as Interim Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Mahopac, beginning with the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, October 2, 2016.

Rev. Montgomery is a graduate of Muskingum College in New Concord, OH, and the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. For the past few decades Rev. Montgomery has been serving in a similar capacity at Presbyterian churches in Pennsylvania, Florida, Connecticut, New Jersey, Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Nebraska and Indiana. Since 2006 she has been the Pastor of Greenwood Presbyterian Church in Greenwood, Indiana.

In accordance with guidelines from the Presbyterian Church, USA, Rev. Montgomery will be Interim Pastor for at least a year, possibly longer, while the church searches for a permanent Pastor. The pulpit has been basically open since the retirement of Rev. Kenneth Mast at the end of last year, after 27 years at the church. Services have continued with guest ministers since that time.

Known as “The Church on The Hill,” First Presbyterian Church was established in 1784 when the area was still part of the Town of Southeast in Dutchess County. The church filed incorporation papers with the State of New York in 1806. The congregation is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA, and is a part of the Synod of the Northeast and the Presbytery of the Hudson River.
