The Putnam County Department of Health held the first every Symposium on Community Resilience on Tuesday, October 24th.

SOUTHEAST-BREWSTER, NY - From the Putnam County Department of Health: The first Symposium on Community Resilience was held at the Putnam County Golf Course on Tuesday, October 24. Dozens of child-serving institutions attended to learn how to improve ways to help children cope before, during and after a disaster. The event, organized by the county’s Community Resilience Coalition (CRC), featured a keynote address by David Abramson, PhD, from the NYU Global Institute for Public Health Program on Population Impact Recovery and Resilience, and a panel presentation by four speakers with first-hand experience from Hurricane Sandy. Putnam County is one of two communities in the United States selected to participate in the Resilient Children/Resilient Communities (RCRC) Initiative, led by the National Center for Disaster Preparedness at Columbia University’s Earth Institute and Save the Children.
