Garrison Man Killed In Putnam County Crash

Police said a tractor-trailer collided with a car.

GARRISON, NY — One person was killed Wednesday in a crash on Route 9 in Garrison that involved an overturned tractor-trailer. While authorities have not identified the man, a Facebook post by Jennifer Mercurio said the person killed was Joseph C. Mercurio, 72, of Garrison.

He was a volunteer firefighter with the Garrison Volunteer Fire Co. and former commissioner of the Garrison Fire District, the Highlands Current said.

Jennifer Mercurio said details of the wake, funeral and burial will be forthcoming.

Police said the tractor-trailer and car collided around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday near Snake Hill Road, the Journal News reported.

When the tractor-trailer overturned it took down power lines affecting about 1,000 customers.
