I-84 Reopened After Accident Near 9D

Police allege a speeding driver lost control; the driver he hit went to Westchester Medical Center with a severe leg injury.

New York State Police responded to Interstate 84 Sept. 18 in the area of State Route 9D for a personal injury auto collision.

An investigation revealed that a 2003 Chevrolet Impala operated by Peter Mosen, 64, of Walden, New York, was traveling westbound on Interstate 84. A second westbound vehicle, operated by 28-year-old Jason Vargas of Chicopee, Massachusetts, was traveling at a high rate of speed. Vargas lost control of his vehicle and struck an earth embankment in the median of the highway. Vargas’ vehicle subsequently re-entered the interstate and struck Mosen’s vehicle.

Vargas and a 9-year-old child passenger were transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital by Mobil Life Support with minor injuries.

Mosen was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center with a severe leg injury. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time

The crash closed Interstate 84 for just over an hour.
