BREWSTER, NY β€” The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations arrested a 26-year-old in Brewster last week.

It was part of a targeted immigration enforcement action in Putnam and Suffolk counties as well as New York City.

ICE officials said their Putnam County arrest was of a 26-year-old Guatemalan national. They did not identify him. They said he had previously removed from the U.S. and has a pending charge for driving while intoxicated.

The sweep picked up nine men, seven of whom had previous convictions. Two of them had been removed from the United States before.

"ICE continues to prioritize the arrest of criminals who have a history of preying upon the most vulnerable members in our communities,” said Thomas R. Decker, ERO New York’s field office director. β€œPublic safety should not be politicized; egregious offenders should not be released into our communities."
