Interested in Serving on the Brewster School Board?
The school district elections and budget vote are May 19 this year.
Three seats will be up for election on the Brewster Board of Education May 19, as terms end for Stephen O. Jambor, Sonia Mesika and Elyse Schajer.
To run for the school board, candidates must file a petition with the District Clerk 30 days before the election. Petition packets can be picked up at the clerk’s office, 30 Farm to Market Road.

- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be 18 years of age by the date of the election
- Must be and must have been a resident (but need not be a taxpayer) of the district for a continuous and uninterrupted period of at least one year immediately before the election.
- Nominating petitions must have at least 46 signatures of qualified voters to be considered.
- There is no maximum number of individuals who may file nominating petitions to become a member of the BOE. State law prescribes a lot drawing the day after the deadline for filing petitions in order to determine the candidates’ respective position on the ballot.
The Westchester-Putnam School Boards Association will run its annual Prospective BOE Member Workship on April 9.
Trustees serve for three years and are not paid.
