Local Women Unite in Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monolgues at Drew Methodist Church in Carmel, NY

Tickets are $20 for one-night only performance of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" Saturday, Feb. 25 at 8 pm at Drew Church in Carmel.

Faithful Productions presents a one-night only performance of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues Saturday, Feb. 25, at 8 p.m. at Drew Methodist Church in Carmel, NY. All proceeds will benefit the Putnam/Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center.

Producer/Director Jennie Marie Lambert explains her motivation for bringing this important piece of theatre to Carmel:

“There has never been a more important time to make our voices heard, and spread awareness about resources and safe places for women who are afraid and face violence. We envision a world where women live safely and freely, where they create and thrive, rather than struggle to survive or recover from terrible atrocities. V-Day is an organized response against violence toward women. Faithful Productions will never be silent, and we will always support organizations that offer safe havens to those in danger.”

Lambert of Carmel first saw The Vagina Monologues in the late ‘90s when Ensler performed it as a solo piece, and she felt an immediate connection to both the script and then, to the V-Day movement as it has unfolded over the last 20 years. This is the third time Lambert has performed in The Vagina Monologues, and the second time she has produced and directed it. Having earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Theatre, she is thrilled to connect the things she loves —being an advocate for those in need and performing.

Joining Lambert in the performance are Lizz Gafney, Deborah Shaw, Sofia Dupi, Emma Burke-Covitz and Angela Fradella.

The Vagina Monologues is an episodic play written by Eve Ensler in 1996 and was originally performed at the Off-Broadway Westside Theatre after a limited run at HERE Arts Center in New York City. Charles Isherwood of The New York Times called the play "probably the most important piece of political theater of the last decade." In 2011, Ensler was awarded the Isabelle Stevenson Award at the 65th Tony Awards, which recognizes an individual from the theater community who has made a substantial contribution of volunteered time and effort on behalf of humanitarian, social service, or charitable organizations. The play has been staged internationally, and a television version. In 1998, Ensler and others launched V-Day, a global non-profit movement that has raised over $100 million dollars for groups working to end violence against women and girls through benefits of The Vagina Monologues.
