Longtime Brewster Resident Dies at 85

Services are slated for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Peter John Tavino, a longtime resident of Brewster, passed away on Friday. He was 85.
 
Peter was born on July 17, 1926 in Tuckahoe to the late James and Josephine (Izzo) Tavino. He served in the Army during World War II. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as a Past Grand Knight. Peter owned his own construction company, and built and developed several properties throughout Brewster and the surrounding area.
 
Peter is survived by Nellie, his wife of 60 years; sons Peter (Mary), James (Nancy), Louis (Mary), and Thomas (Ann); daughter Joanne; sister Ann Disque; brother Justin Tavino; 13 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Rose Manes.
 
Peter was a gentle and kind man who will be remembered fondly by many.
 
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at in Brewster. Interment following at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday and Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Beecher Funeral Home (1 Putnam Avenue in Brewster).
