Mahopac Man Had Heroin, Cocaine: Sheriff

He faces drug and traffic charges.

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Mahopac man on a drug charge and other offenses.

At 5:47 p.m. Feb. 13, Deputy Sheriff Christopher Irwin stopped a motorist for alleged traffic violations on Route 6N in Mahopac. During the course of the traffic stop, the deputy discovered that the driver, identified as Matthew D. Singer, 44, of 695 Long Pond Road in Mahopac, was allegedly in possession of quantities of heroin and cocaine.

Irwin arrested Singer and charged him with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a class A misdemeanor. He was also ticketed for several traffic infractions.

He was processed at the scene and released on his own recognizance pending a future appearance in the Town of Carmel Justice Court to answer the charges. If found guilty of the drug charge, Singer could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
