Maine Man Faces Weapons, Drug And Driving Charges In Southeast

He was stopped Tuesday on I-84.

SOUTHEAST, NY – A man from Maine faces weapons, drug and driving charges in Southeast. He was arrested on I-84 in Southeast by New York State Police on Tuesday.

Troopers from the Brewster barracks conducted a traffic stop of a 2006 Jeep on I-84 at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday for several vehicle and traffic infractions. When they interviewed the operator a strong odor of marijuana was detected, police said. Investigation found Adam P. Sokoloski operated his vehicle while his ability was impaired by drugs. Further investigation found a loaded .40 caliber Glock 23, a high capacity magazine, and over $3,500 in U.S. currency.

State Police charged Sokoloski, 25, of Bridgton, Maine, with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree, a class C felony, Criminal Possession of a High Capacity Ammunition Clip in the 3rd degree, a class D felony, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, a class E felony, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Impaired by Drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor.

Sokoloski was arraigned before Southeast town court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
