31,000 Without Power: Friday AM Report

Many residents of Orange, Rockland, Putnam and Westchester continue to await repairs.

Work continues on repairing the thousands of downed wires in the Hudson Valley. As angry public officials rage about the management of the utilities serving the region, the four power companies estimated most of the 31,000 customers still without electricity would have power restored by Saturday.

However, O&R officials said this morning most Rockland County customers would have power back by Sunday night. The company reports 16,000 customers still without power, most of them in Rockland and Bergen County, NJ.

  • Con Edison reports 12,268 customers out of power in Westchester as of 9:58 a.m. Friday.
  • NYSEG reports 10,666 customers still out as of 9:36 a.m. That includes 3,587 in Putnam County and 6,704 in Westchester.
  • O&R reports 6,595 customers out in Rockland and Orange counties, with another 9,477 in New Jersey.
  • Central Hudson reports 1,622 customers out

Con Edison officials said some of the toughest work remains, with more than 86 Westchester roads closed, more than 600 of the outages involving single customers, and locations with severe tree damage. The company recalled some 100 workers early from Puerto Rico.

  • Mt Pleasant Town Hall (parking lot across the street), 1 Town Hall Plaza, Valhalla, NY 10595. 12 p.m. – 8 p.m.
  • New Rochelle City Hall, 515 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY 10801. 12 p.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Cortlandt Town Center, 3121 East Main Street, Mohegan Lake, NY 10547. 12 p.m. – 8 p.m.

All Putnam County government offices have resumed normal operations. Residents requiring assistance are encouraged to reach out to their local or county government offices on Friday. Comfort facilities will also be available on Friday, March 9, 2018 at: Town of Southeast Town Hall from 7:00 am till 5:00 pm; Kent Public Library from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; Patterson Recreation Center from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm; Temple Beth Shalom in Mahopac from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
