More High Winds, Storms Possible: Brewster's Weather

A Hazardous Outlook has been issued by the National Weather Service and there's a surprise at the end of the work week for Southeast.

BREWSTER, NY — Temperatures will be above average to start the work week off, get milder and milder through Wednesday, and then there's a chance of late afternoon thunderstorms — again — before cold roars back in to really lock in March. Maybe even with snow.

The National Weather Service has already issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for midweek for Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties.

Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather predicted temps on Wednesday could climb into the mid 60s. There's a possibility of showers on Tuesday, and then a possibility of showers plus very windy conditions Wednesday and Thursday, as a cold front comes in.

Potter also recapped the severe storms that swept through the Hudson Valley Saturday night. Underlying factor: For three straight days, temperatures were 25° to 30° above average.

"When you have conditions that far from average, when the cold returns, the clash of air masses is likely to be explosive," Potter said. "The line of severe thunderstorms pushed through the Hudson Valley between 5pm and 7pm… and WOW… it was ugly. Orange County airport recorded a wind gust of 69mph, and there were downed trees and power lines all across northern Orange and southern Ulster counties ... This would have been a significant severe weather outbreak for June or July… let alone February. So many people were caught off guard, making it even more of a shock to the system."
