UPDATE 9:15 a.m. Both lanes northbound on the Taconic Parkway have been reopened in Putnam.<hr />UPDATE 8:42 a.m. — The right lane is blocked on the Taconic between Route 301 and I-84 due to investigation and clean-up of a multi-vehicle accident. <hr />PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — State transportation officials report the northbound Taconic State Parkway was closed at 7:45 a.m. after a multi-vehicle accident. The road is closed between Route 301 and I-84. Officials estimate it could be closed for up to two hours. The Putnam Chorale announces the opening of registration for new and returning singers for its Fall 2026 semester. The 80-person community choir, entering its 42nd year, offers experienced and novice singers an opportunity to learn and perform vibrant classic and contemporary choral music.&nbsp;Singers can participate in rehearsals for free through the month of September, to ensure that the fit is right.&nbsp; If the singer wishes to continue, the semester tuition is $160 and includes all the required music. Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings at the Carmel High School in Casey Hall, from 7pm to 9:30pm.&nbsp;Auditions are not required, except to place the singer in the appropriate section (Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass). Some experience singing with a choir or other musical group previously is preferred. The Jay Heritage Center in Rye, New York will celebrate America at 250 with a toast to Jay Medal honorees Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annette Gordon-Reed, the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard University and award-winning Lincoln historian Harold Holzer.
The Jay Medal for Service was created in 2012 to recognize individuals who demonstrate a selfless spirit of commitment to and engagement with their community mirroring the multifaceted contributions of John Jay and his descendants. These honorees have demonstrated through their life's work that our shared narratives as a country, complicated as they are, can be better illuminated through the highest caliber of ongoing scholarship and advocacy. Honorees are selected for their excellence in the fields of American history, environmental stewardship, social justice or civic engagement.
Joining the celebration will be Chief Judge of the State of New York and the New York Court of Appeals, Honorable Rowan D. Wilson and historian and philanthropist Elihu Rose who will present the awards at JHC's annual Soirée. Special guests will include David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman, and Beverly Gage.

The Jay Medal Soirée will be held Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the Jay Estate from 5:30-9:30pm. Cocktails, dinner, award ceremony and dancing. Cocktail Attire.
