Police Say Mahopac Woman Made Up Hit-and-Run Victim Story

She faces a misdemeanor charge.

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Mahopac woman on a pair of misdemeanor charges.

At about 9:45 p.m. May 11, sheriff’s deputies responded to a lobby complaint at the Sheriff’s Department in Carmel. A woman stated that she was the victim of a pedestrian hit and run accident in Mahopac. The case was turned over to Criminal Investigators from the Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

On May 13, criminal investigators charged Kerry A. Massi, 53, with Falsely Reporting an Incident in the Third Degree and with Making a Punishable False Written Statement, misdemeanors. She was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility, issued an appearance ticket and released in her own recognizance pending a June 20 court appearance in Town of Carmel Justice Court.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, she could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00 for each charge.
