UPDATE: Armed Carjacker Shot by Police on I-84 Identified
The man shot was a Connecticut resident.

UPDATE: The New York State Police have identified the individual involved in yesterday’s shooting on I-84 near Exit 11 as Michael G. Murphy, 38, from West Simsbury, CT. The incident remains under investigation.

At the direction of Dutchess County District Attorney William Grady, the New York State Police and Beacon Police Department are jointly investigating the shooting death of an armed suspect by a Beacon police officer.
Yesterday at 3:30 p.m. Memorial Park, a man car-jacked a vehicle at knifepoint. City of Beacon police responded.

The suspect abandoned the stolen vehicle on North Elm Street and was chased by police through a wooded area near I-84.
He then ran across the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-84 near Exit 11. Just off the westbound shoulder, he threatened pursuing officers with a large knife and was subsequently shot and killed by police.
Both the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-84 were shut down for a period of time to process the scene of the shooting, causing delays for motorists.
Release of his identity is pending notification of next of kin.
