Putnam County GC to host 5th Annual Putnam County Amateur
On Saturday, August 11, 2018, Putnam County Golf Course will host the 5th Annual Putnam County Amateur Championship.

On Saturday, August 11, 2018, Putnam County Golf Course will host the 5th Annual Putnam County Amateur Championship. Located in Mahopac, New York, the challenging 18-hole championship course will welcome golfers from throughout the northeast region for a chance at the title. Any individual with a USGA Handicap is welcome to play and enjoy a day out on the picturesque Putnam County Golf Course in Mahopac.
The Putnam County Amateur Championship was created by Jim Woods, the PGA Golf Professional at Putnam County Golf Course.
"Five years ago I decided to create an event that would bring back competitive golf and comrade-re here at Putnam," says Woods. "There were never any events other than golf leagues that offered this sort of competition. This event was created for golfers of all ages and skill levels. Therefore, we have several different divisions to accommodate every type of golfer."

The Championship includes an 18-Hole Stroke Play with USGA Rules. A USGA – GHIN handicap is required to participate. There will be a non-handicap division for those without. To ensure a fun and exciting event for all, golfers will be split up by age, gender and ability. Divisions will play from designated tee markers: the men will be on the white, ladies on red, and seniors aged 60 or older on gold. Winners of each division will be presented with a trophy and Putnam Gift Cards. The deadline to enter is Wednesday, August 8th at 6:00 pm and the entry form can be accessed on Putnam County Golf Course's website. Starting times will begin at 7:30 am and pairings will be done by Woods.
Woods' desire to provide a completive golf event at Putnam County Golf Course has paid off. "Having been behind the ropes before at the highest levels on the PGA tour, I know how awesome it is to compete," he says. "I look at all of the people that are trying to win this event and I know that this may be the biggest event of their life. Therefore, it is important to run it like a PGA tour event so everyone can have the full experience of true golf competition."
