Putnam To Give Out Masks At Senior Centers: COVID Update

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — The Putnam County Office for Senior Resources will distribute face coverings to Putnam County seniors in a drive-by event Friday and Monday.

Because the elderly have been identified as very vulnerable to the new coronavirus, Putnam County Department of Health and The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that seniors wear face coverings when in groups and in public settings.

In the past three months, 399 Putnam residents aged 60 or over have gotten COVID-19, out of a total of 1,451 confirmed positive cases as of the county's report Tuesday. Though the outbreak continues to wane in the county, one new case was reported at Putnam Hospital Center last week. There have been 60 deaths.

Who: This program is for the benefit of Putnam County seniors of age 60 and older.

When: From noon to 2 p.m. June 5 and 8

• Koehler Senior Center, 180 Rt. 6, Mahopac
• Putnam Valley Senior Center, 117 Town Park Lane, Putnam Valley
• Friendship Center in Philipstown, 1756 Rt. 9D, Lahey Pavilion, Cold Spring

How: There will be signs posted. Staff will also be outside the centers during the distribution period. Seniors driving in are to remain in their cars and the face coverings will be handed to them on a tray by OSR staff and volunteers wearing face coverings and gloves.

What: The face covering is a white washable cotton fabric and will come with washing instructions.
