Putnam One of Top Counties with Low Unemployment

Preliminary local area unemployment rates for August 2015 show Putnam still on the state Labor Departmentâs list of 10 counties with the lowest rates.

The Stateâs private sector job count increased by 163,000, from August 2014 to August 2015. In August 2015, the number of private sector jobs in the Statewas 7,810,300. The Stateâs private sector job count is based on a payroll survey of 18,000 New York State employers conducted by the U.S. Department ofLaborâs Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In addition, between July and August 2015, the Stateâs seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 5.4% to 5.2%, its lowest level since May 2008.

Rates are calculated following procedures prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The stateâs unemployment rate relies in part on the results of the Current Population Survey, which contacts approximately 3,100 households in New York State each month.
