Putnam's Annual Adult Spelling Bee is Coming Up: Field a Team

BREWSTER, NY – Putnam Family & Community Services invites local businesses, organizations, and residents to its 8th Annual Adult Spelling Bee. Known as a night of rousing competition, teams of up to 10 spellers take on increasingly challenging words to hopefully become the next Putnam champions.

In 2016, 25 teams vied for the championship trophy, with the Akzo Nobel Bees claiming first place. The Putnam Hospital Putnam Pirates took second place honors, with The Patterson Library Ninjas and the Akzo Nobel Bees being recognized as “Most Enthusiastic Cheerleaders.”

This year’s Bee will be held on April 27 at the Starr Ridge Banquet Center in Brewster. The evening will begin with a buffet dinner at 5:30 p.m. At 6 p.m., State Assemblywoman Sandy Galef will kick off the competition by reading the first round of words. Veteran emcees Bill Hammond of Edward Jones and local singer-songwriter Cat Guthrie will then lead the teams through multiple rounds of spelling challenges before the exciting single elimination championship round.

Teams of up to 10 participants are welcome; team members can choose to be spellers, cheerleaders, or spectators. The Bee is $30 per person and includes a full buffet dinner, soft drinks, and dessert.

Beer and wine will be available at a cash bar. All proceeds support the many programs of PFCS, a private non-profit agency that provides recovery-based treatment and preventive services for mental health, social/emotional and substance use issues.
