Resident Dies After 91 Years in Brewster

Services are slated for Tuesday and Wednesday.

August T. Piazza, age 97, of Brewster, died peacefully at home on Sunday.

Piazza was born Oct. 21, 1914, in the Bronx, son of the late Thomas and Genni (Latino) Piazza. He moved to Brewster when he was 6 years old. On Oct. 27, 1940, he married Josephine Tagliavento in in Brewster. Josephine predeceased him on June 1, 1989.

Piazza worked as a teacher for the Bronx Vocational, teaching students how to be Barbers for more than 35 years. He also owned and worked in many Barber shops in the Brewster, Carmel and Croton Falls area. He was a member of the Croton Falls Fire Department — a past chief and past member of the Board of Fire Commissioners — and he worked as a tax assessor for the town of North Salem. He was an avid golfer. Most of all, he loved his family.

Piazza is survived by his son Thomas Piazza of the Bronx and a daughter Karen Blake of Brewster; two sisters, Antoinette Babon and Bernice Hutchings of Brewster; a brother John Piazza of Brewster; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Gerald Piazza and his brother Nicholas Piazza.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at . Interment following at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery. Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home (1 Putnam Avenue in Brewster) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Croton Falls Fire Department.
