John F. Werner of Brewster died Nov. 7, 2011 in Danbury, CT at the age of 88.
Mr. Werner was born Oct. 21, 1923 in Hicksville, son of the late John and Jean (Mollitor) Werner. He graduated from St. John’s Prep School in Brooklyn then served with the Air Force from Feb. 1943 to Feb. of 1946. On Jan. 22, 1949, he married Mary Quinlivan at St. Mary Gate of Heaven Church in Ozone Park, Queens. He moved to Brewster 42 years ago and became a member of where he was a lector for more than 25 years. Mr. Werner was a New York City Firefighter working on Ladder 28 in Harlem before retiring in Feb. of 1976 after a 23-year career.

Besides his wife Mary, Werner is survived by his daughters: Maureen Patterson of Brewster, Patricia Sullivan of Poughquage, Elizabeth Werner-Young of New Milford, CT; two brothers: Lawrence Werner of Clearwater, FL, Rev. George Werner SMM of Bay Shore; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son John F. Werner III in Dec. of 2010.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence O’Toole. Interment will be private. Calling hours will be held Thursday at the Beecher Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
