Schoolhouse Theater Opens 2014-2015 Season with "Freud's Last Session"

"Freud's Last Session" is considered a battle of wits that is exciting and thought-provoking theater!

The Schoolhouse Theater will present three mainstage productions for their 2014-2015 season, opening with Mark St. Germain’s Freud’s Last Session which will run from October 31 to November 23, 2014. The play, directed by Sean Hagerty, is the imagined meeting between Sigmund Freud and C.S. Lewis in Freud’s office in London just days before the start of World War II. Mr. Hagerty is the Associate Artistic Director and Director of Education for New York Classical Theatre as well as the chair of Education and Training for The Shakespeare Theatre Association. Freud’s Last Session has been called, “Lively, provocative and witty,” by the Associated Press. The New York Times wrote, “Mark St. Germain’s script is astute and the humor is plentiful.”


The Pulitzer-prize winning play, The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds, written by Paul Zindel, will run from February 27 through March 22, 2015. Paul Newman produced and directed a critically acclaimed film based on the play in 1972. As a play, Gamma Rays was considered one of Off-Broadway’s greatest successes. In addition to winning the Pulitzer in 1971, it also won the Obie Award and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best American Play of the season. It is a powerful and moving study of a widow and her two young daughters. Pamela Moller Kareman, Schoolhouse Theater’s Artistic Director, will direct the production.


From June 5 through June 28, the Schoolhouse will produce the emotionally charged, historical drama, The Clearing, by British playwright, Helen Edmundson. The Clearing is set in 17th century Ireland during the march of Cromwell’s army and the ethnic cleansing that was committed by the English. Directed by Pamela Moller Kareman, the play tells the story of an English aristocrat and his Irish-Catholic wife and how they are forced to confront the atrocities taking place right outside their door and the dilemma is presents. CurtainUp, the internet theater magazine of reviews and features, called the 1999 production, “viscerally gripping, timely theater.”

Over the years, The Schoolhouse Theater has earned a reputation as the go-to theater in Westchester, where audiences can see Broadway quality productions at a fraction of the cost. The Schoolhouse is a regional Equity theater, dedicated to presenting professional productions by award-winning playwrights and supporting and promoting all the arts.


Individual tickets for mainstage productions are $38, a subscription is $99 (includes one ticket for each of the three mainstage productions). Senior citizen discount tickets are $35 and student tickets are available at $20.
