Serious 2-Car Crash Near Breakneck Tunnel

State police said a Beacon man tried to pass in a no passing zone.

PHILIPSTOWN, NY – A two-car collision on Route 9D just south of the Breakneck Tunnel Monday night hospitalized the two drivers. State police said one of them caused the crash by attempting to pass in a no passing zone.

State police said they were called to the scene at 10:52 p.m. April 17. Their investigation indicated that Gregory V. Prince, 29, of Hill Crest, New York, was traveling southbound on Route 9D. A second vehicle, operated by 61-year-old Lynford R. Davis of Beacon, New York, was traveling north.

Police said Davis attempted to pass a northbound vehicle in a no passing zone and struck Prince head-on. Then his car left the roadway and struck a utility pole. Police said Davis was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries and is listed Tuesday in critical but stable condition.
