HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for parts of the Hudson Valley Wednesday.

The watch is in effect until 10 p.m. for Dutchess, Orange and Putnam counties, according to the National Weather Service.

There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms Wednesday ahead of a cold front.

Meteorologists said the main threat is damaging winds of 58 mph or greater.

An isolated tornado or large hail 1 inch in diameter or larger is also possible.

Locally heavy rain could cause ponding of water on roadways and standing water in low lying areas.

If thunderstorms repeatedly move over the same areas, there could also be isolated to scattered flash flooding.
