Sign Up Now For Brewster Memorial Day 5K
It's a new community-building event after the parade, ceremony and BBQ (at a new location!).

BREWSTER, NY — Brewster will hold its first Memorial Day community 5K run May 30, hosted by Brewster Post 672 Veterans of Foreign Wars & Auxiliary, the Town of Southeast Fireworks committee and the Brewster Chamber of Commerce.
The "Freedom is NOT Free" run is an addition to the traditional parade and solemn ceremony held every year on Memorial Day in Brewster.
"We’re excited about it," Andres Gil, senior vice commander at VFW Post 672, told Patch. "We’re hoping to make it an annual event."

It will come on the heels of another change to the annual event — the VFW traditionally serves up hamburgers and hot dogs afterward at the Post, but this year they're moving the grills to Markel Park and adding some vendors and live music, to make it more of a community event and easier for parade participants and spectators to get to.
The Memorial Day event schedule: Parade participants line up at the Brewster Fire Department at 10 a.m. The parade will kick off at 10:45 a.m., heading south on Main Street past the train station then down to Memorial Field for the ceremony, presentation of wreaths and rifle salute. The BBQ will be afterward at Markel Park.

Then the 5K run will begin at 12:30 p.m. making a circle down Main Street to Peaceable Hill, past Lake Panetta and on to the park.
Here's where to sign up. Registration Fee includes a free T-shirt and all the proceeds will go to local programs to benefit veterans, their families and the community. Learn more on the post's Facebook page.
