Maguire does it again

Justin Maguire has been a machine on the cross-country trails during his high-school career, especially the last two years.

Thus, he was for the second year in a row named Westchester/Putnam Boys Cross Country Athlete of the season by the Journal News.

Maguire will run at the next level either at the Naval Academy or RPI on a Marine ROTC scholarship.

Brewster boys hoops wins

The New York Knicks now have their "Big Three" in Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler and against visiting R.C. Ketcham Dec. 16, the Brewster Bears boys basketball squad displayed its own "Big Three".

Brewster had three of its players in double figures in Brian McNeil (18 points), Mike Bonilla (14) and Jack Dignan (11) as the Bears beat the Indians 81-50.

Bulldogs fly by Philly

The Brewster Bulldogs Empire Junior Hockey League squad went to the Keystone State and defeated the host Philadelphia Revolution 6-3 on Dec. 17.

Brewster jumped out to a 5-1 lead on a goal by Jake Garay at the 10:18 mark of the second period and of course were never headed from there.
