Southeast Man Faces DWAI Charge after Stop on Rte 312

Police say a caller told them the driver sat through three cycles of the traffic light at Farm to Market Road.

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Southeast resident on charges of DWAI drugs and marijuana possession.

At 11:44 p.m. Aug. 26, Deputy Sheriff Kevin Radovich was dispatched after a 911 report of a suspicious vehicle on Route 312 in Southeast. The caller reported that the vehicle had been stopped at the intersection of Route 312 and Farm to Market Road for three complete cycles of the traffic signal, and that the driver appeared to be “high.”

The deputy located the vehicle on Route 312 and, upon approach, could smell a strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside.

The deputy arrested Kruzykowski and charged him with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, a misdemeanor, after he failed a series of standardized field sobriety tests. The deputy additionally charged the man with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation, upon discovering evidence during the arrest.

Kruzykowski was processed and later released to a third party pending a Sept. 3 appearance in the Town of Southeast Justice Court to answer the charge.
