Southeast Seeks Replacement For Planning Board

SOUTHEAST, NY — Officials in Southeast are looking for candidates for an unexpired term on the 7-member Southeast Planning Board.

Planning Board member Eric Cyprus was elected to the Southeast Town Board in November, and assumes the post in January. Town officials are seeking to fill the four-year remainder of his term, to Dec. 31, 2025.

Cyprus will get to help pick his replacement, as the town board plans to interview candidates Jan. 6 and appoint someone that evening.

The town describes the duties of a planning board member thusly:

The Town of Southeast Planning Board office accepts and processes land use applications as follows:
  • Applications for construction, renovation or changes in the use of commercial structures
  • Subdivision of land, both residential and commercial
In addition, by appointment only, the Planning Department will meet with applicants to assist them with the planning process for future use of a parcel of land, or to discuss where they may wish to locate their business within the Town of Southeast. The Planning Board office also reviews the Zoning regulations with applicants and walks them through the planning review process.
