Speed a Factor in Almost-Fatal Lake Crash
Police say the teen-aged driver lost control: report
MAHOPAC, NY β Two teenage girls needed rescuing from Lake Mahopac Thursday because the car they were driving lost control due to speed, Carmel police told the Putnam Daily Voice.
The girls were rescued by a Mahopac teen, Cullen Malzo, who saw the car hit a telephone pole and drive over a dock before landing upside down in the lake in more than three feet of water. He called 911, then jumped in and pulled the girls out.
Carmel Police Lt. John Dearman told the Daily Voice the car was traveling at a high rate of speed on North Lake Boulevard.
