Stabbing At Putnam Restaurant Leads To Attempted Murder Charges

A 27-year-old Danbury man is accused of repeatedly stabbing the victim in a pre-dawn altercation at La Patrona Mexican Restaurant.

SOUTHEAST, NY — A Danbury man has been charged with attempted murder stemming from a weekend stabbing in a parking lot, according to Sheriff Kevin J. McConville.

On Sunday, at approximately 4 a.m., deputies were called to the La Patrona Mexican Restaurant on Route 22 in Southeast for reports of a fight in progress with a knife involved.

Deputies found a large crowd gathered outside the restaurant and quickly located the victim, a 27-year-old man who had been stabbed in the neck and stomach. Police began first aid and Brewster Ambulance was called to the scene. The victim was rushed to Danbury Hospital for treatment.

Deputies and investigators from the Sheriff's Office determined, through interviews and video surveillance, that the victim and a suspect had an argument that escalated into a physical dispute, at which point, the suspect stabbed the victim multiple times.

The suspect was eventually identified as Nestor Rodriguez, a 27-year-old male from Danbury. He was located later that day and taken into custody. He has now been charged with attempted murder in the second degree, attempted assault and assault.

Rodriguez was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail on bail. Putnam County Sheriff's Office deputies were assisted at the scene by members of the New York State Police, Carmel and MTA Police Departments.
