Storms to Bracket Work Week: Brewster's Weather

New details from the National Weather Service for the 5-day forecast around Southeast.

SOUTHEAST, NY — Looks as if Hump Day will be the nicest day of our work week in the Hudson Valley. It'll be bracketed by rainstorms that could lead to flooding.

The National Weather Service updated its Flood Watch Monday morning before dawn.

Monday will be mild, following on the heels of Sunday's higher-than-average temperatures; however, the soaking rain will be coming in across a wide front: clouds coming in from the Ohio Valley bringing moisture from the Great Lakes and the Gulf of Mexico.

Rain should start around midnight.

"As we near midnight, we’ll see some scattered showers across the valley, with steady rain not far behind," said Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather.

Small streams and overworked storm drains could mean some flooded roads. So what with heavy rain, wind gusts up to 20 mph and the chance of flooding, motorists are urged to be cautious, specially during the morning and evening commutes on Tuesday.

Wednesday looks great, so take advantage.

"Sunshine and mild air will likely make it the nicest day of the week," said Jordan Root, AccuWeather meteorologist. "However, another storm will be looming on the horizon."

As in, rain to start overnight Wednesday and keep coming down through Friday. With the ground already saturated from last Friday's rain, this next storm could bring flooding as well as a solid end to the Hudson Valley's drought.
